Pisgah Forest, DuPont State Forest, Bearwallow Mountain, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Chimney Rock are just a few of the public recreational lands that account for thousands of acres of forest, and miles of trails with spectacular views and waterfalls. Within these mountains, numerous triathlons, marathons and hiking events are hosted throughout the year.
Bearwallow Mountain, which is privately owned, is located in northeastern Henderson County, towering above the Hickory Nut Gorge, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure areas.
Nearly 100 miles (160 km) of multi-use trails and roads thread through the forest. The forest is widely used for many recreational activities, including mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, swimming (where permitted), wading, and kayaking.
The Pisgah National Forest covers over 500,000 acres of forest land across the central mountains of Western North Carolina.
